Simo K. Määttä

Simo K. Määttä is associate professor of translation studies at the University of Helsinki. Overall, his research deals with the issues of language and power, language and identity, and the representation and interpretation of linguistic variation. Specifically, he has focused on language ideologies, language policies and the politics of language in translation and interpreting. Other research interests include verbal aggression, hate speech and asylum-related interpreting. His theoretical background is in critical discourse analysis, critical sociolinguistics and sociological translation studies.
