Subha Xavier

Subha Xavier is associate professor of French and core faculty at the Institute of African Studies at Emory University. She is author of The Migrant Text: Making and Marketing a Global French Literature (2016) in which she proposes migrant textual practice as a mode of writing that exploits racial tensions, cultural conflicts and cosmopolitan quandaries in a globalized world. Migrant writers, she argues, must be situated at the intersection of the financial mandates of literary production and the textual strategies they deploy to resist, but also profit from, these conditions. She has published several articles on the literature and film of immigration, and is currently writing a book that examines the long history of literary exchange between China and France in light of recent migration trends to the French-speaking world.
