Ute Fendler

Ute Fendler is chair of romance and comparative cultural studies (since 2016), University of Bayreuth and vice-director of the Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies. Her research interests include African Cinema, francophone/Lusophone literatures/film/TV (Africa, Caribbean, Canada), intermediality, iconographies, Caribbean and Indian Ocean studies. Her current Research Projects include the following: 2012–18: Revolution 3.0: Iconographies of social utopia in Africa and its diasporas (Bayreuth Academy of Advanced African Studies), and 2016–19: Narrativas do Oceano Índico no Espaço Lusófono. Her recent publications include Archeology of the Future: African Cinema and Imaginary (eds Ute Fendler and Aminata Mbaye, München: AVM, 2018) and Transformations: Changements et renouveaux dans la littérature et le cinéma au Maghreb depuis 1990 (eds Ute Fendler, Ricarda Bienbeck, Maroua El Naggare and Mechthild Gilzmer, München: AVM, 2016).
