Wenny TEO

Wenny Teo is an art historian, curator and the Iwan and Manuela Wirth Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Asian Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art, University of London. Originally from Singapore, she received a BA in History of Art and English Literature from York University and an MA and Ph.D. in history of art from University College London. Her Ph.D. thesis, entitled ‘One world, One dream: Contemporary Chinese art and spectacle’ is now being revised for publication. Prior to joining The Courtauld, she worked in various curatorial roles at Tate Modern, London and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai, and more recently served as associate curator for We Have Never Participated: The 8th Shenzhen Biennale (2014) and was a co-curator of A Beautiful Disorder: Contemporary Chinese Art at Cass Sculpture Foundation (2016) in Chichester, UK. Her current research interests centre on questions of networked resistance, scale, humour, surveillance, geopolitics and labour in modern and contemporary Chinese and South East Asian art and visual culture.
