Yu Xiang is an assistant professor at Shanghai University in China. Her research interests lie in the areas of international communication, China–Africa media studies, audience reception analysis and social media and journalism. Her publications include but not limited to ‘African students watching CCTV-Africa: A structural reception analysis of oppositional decoding’ and ‘China in Africa: Refiguring centre-periphery media dynamics’.
