Zilia Imamutdinova

Zilia Imamutdinova is a graduate of Ufa State Institute of Arts (Bashkortostan, 1984). She received her doctoral degree from the State Institute for Art Studies (SIAS, Moscow, 1997). She works at SIAS (Department of Music Theory). From 2004, Zilia Imamutdinova has been Dean at the Moscow Islam Institute and teaching arts of Islamic world. From 2015, she has been a member of the International Council for Traditional Music. She specializes in Islamic culture, especially in music (Qur’ānic cantillation, Tatar and Bashkir folk-lore). She was awarded several medals by the Council of Russian Mufties including for ‘Spiritual Unity’ in 2009 and for ‘Merits’ in 2017. Zilia Imamutdinova received a research grant (2002–04) from The Russian State Humanities Fund for the preparation of the monograph, The Principles of the Islamic Rhetoric in Tradition of the Qur’ānic Reading. Her major publications include: The Culture of Bashkirs and the Oral Musical Tradition (Qur’ānic cantillation and Folklore [Moscow, 2000]) and The Islamic Art Culture (Moscow, 2017), and she is the author of several articles and conference papers.
