Raksha Patel

Raksha Patel is an artist and lecturer. She lives and works in London. She (b. 1972, Leicester) studied MFA painting at The Slade School of Art (1998). Her practice focuses upon notions of race, identity and belonging looking at recent histories of migration and diaspora. The images in her work are set within working class urban landscapes, drawing our attention to the underrepresented and the discarded. Patel works as an artist, artist-educator, socially engaged practitioner and lecturer. She worked for the Learning Department at Tate Britain (1999–2011); she also worked as an artist in Residence at the Whitechapel Gallery (2004–05) and at Pitzhanger Manor (2012–13). She is currently a lecturer in painting at Camberwell College of Arts.
