Sue Thomas

Dr Sue Thomas is currently Assistant Professor of Fashion at Heriot-Watt University. Having taught in the UK and Aotearoa New Zealand, it was in Australia, that she began teaching fashion design for sustainability. In her doctorate in 2011 ‘Situated empathy’, she explored the synergies between the discourses of fashion design, Buddhist ethics and sustainability, proposing an ethical position for contemporary fashion design practice. A public speaker and broadcaster, she champions ethics, sustainability and inclusion. She contributed a chapter on faith in design in the Routledge Sustainability and Fashion Handbook published in 2014. Her book Fashion Ethics was published by Routledge in September 2017.
