Chinyere Stella Okunna
Chinyere Stella Okunna is Professor of Mass Communication at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria. Her research interest is in the area of communication for development, particularly women’s development from the perspective of women and the media. She has done considerable work on the role of the media in the effort to empower Nigerian women and improve their condition and status in the patriarchal male-dominated Nigerian society. Her scholarly works appear in Media Culture and Society, Media Development, Journal of Commonwealth Association for Education in Journalism and Communication, Journal of Development Communication, and Africa Media Review.
She is the author of the text books Introduction to Mass Communication (1999), Ethics of Mass Communication (2003, 2nd edition) and the editor of Teaching Mass Communication: A Multi-dimensional Approach (2002).
