Fiona MacPherson

As a practice-based researcher in the field of applied theatre, Fiona MacPherson has extensive experience of collaborating with specific communities through the processes of theatre-making. Her research interests focus on the themes of gender, locality and identity. Her methodological approaches aim to interrogate democratic processes and ethical concerns of ownership in storytelling. She has taught at Northumbria University since 1994. Her recent performances Get Up and Tie Your Fingers, 2014/2017, and The Awkward Squad, 2012, explored the experiences of women in post-industrial fishing and mining communities. She has served on the boards of numerous theatre companies and is currently an advisor to the women’s theatre company Open Clasp. She founded The Guild of Lillian’s production company.
