Moya Carey

Moya Carey is the Curator of Islamic Collections at the Chester Beatty Library in Dublin. Her current research addresses the nineteenth- and early twentieth-century history of collecting in the Middle East. With specific reference to South Kensington Museum acquisitions, she is currently in partnership with Mercedes Volait on a research project centred on architectural salvage, repurposed for private collections and national display contexts alike, in late nineteenth-century Cairo. Carey recently published a book on the formation of the Victoria and Albert Museum’s Iran collections, within the overlapping cultural contexts of Victorian Britain and Qajar Iran: Persian Art. Collecting the Arts of Iran for the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum, 2018).
