My research on the representation of border women in contemporary cinema has been mostly connected to my dissertation ‘Border women: A cosmopolitan approach to contemporary cinema’, developed at the Universidad de Zaragoza under the supervision of professor Celestino Deleyto. I explore the links between the filmic representation of border women and the profound social and cultural changes that characterize our age, such as globalization, transnationalism and cosmopolitanism. This approach includes different theoretical frameworks such as border studies, gender studies and globalization and cosmopolitan theories. My work is based on the belief that the study of border women in contemporary cinema through the theoretical lens of cosmopolitanism could help understand socially constructed configurations of race, class and gender that affects the lives and identities of many women and the ways they are produced through practices, beliefs and institutions.
