Şebnem Yücel

Sebnem Yucel’s research focuses on current topics with a critical historical agenda. She questions the representation of places and buildings, and concentrates on modernization in non-western contexts, cultural identity, and the aestheticization of the everyday. Her teaching in architectural history and theory anchors around the reconfiguration of keywords like modern, metropole, and region and aims to highlight dynamic cultural and disciplinary conditions within increasingly global practices that are embedded in localities. She is currently teaching at MEF University’s architecture department in Istanbul and serving as the department chair.
