Sofia Zanforlin

Sofia Zanforlin is professor and researcher in communication at Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). She has a Ph.D. in communication and culture from the School of Communication of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, 2011. Sofia is the coordinator of the Working Group – Diaspora and Media – of the International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR); co-coordinator of the research group Migrations, Mobilities and Contemporary Management of Populations, Migra (DCG-DCOM) at UFPE. Sofia is the author of the books Etnopaisajes en las Metrópolis Brasileñas: migración, comunicación y sentimiento de pertenencia (Editorial UOC, 2016), the result of doctoral research, and Rupturas Possíveis: Representação e Cotidiano na série televisiva Os Assumidos (Queer as Folk) (Editora Annablume, 2005), the result of master’s research. She develops research with an interface between the communication episteme, contemporary migrations and diasporas, exchanges and experiences between local and global cultures. Intercultural communication, negotiation of belonging, citizenship and cultural interference in urban space, cultural consumption, cosmopolitism and dialogic construction of diversities.
