Stephen Reay

Prof. Stephen Reay is a professor in Art and Design and director of Good Health Design, a collaborative design studio at AUT. As one of a multidisciplinary team, whose aim is to develop better health and well-being experiences, Steve’s research focuses on how the design of products and services may have a positive impact on people’s health and well-being. Good Health Design enables designers to engage with industry professionals as well as researchers from other disciplines, to share and test ideas and to develop unique solutions. Steve had a background in biology and ecology, before returning to study design. His most well-known project is the Design Health and Wellbeing (DHW) Lab at Auckland Hospital (2013–18), the world’s first collaboration between a university design school and a hospital. The DHW Lab won the top prize at the Best Awards (New Zealand’s foremost design awards) and was a space that was meant to creatively challenge how we design and view health and well-being.
