Sushruti Santhanam
Sushruti Santhanam is a Carnatic vocalist who has learnt in the Gurukula of her mother and Guru R. Vedavalli. She is currently completing her doctoral thesis at the Department of History, Savitribai Phule Pune University, India, on theorizing tradition in Indian music. Besides performing, teaching and composing in the Carnatic genre, Sushruti has over two decades of experience in collaborating and doing independent research with community musicians in the states of Telengana and Rajasthan. Her academic interests include methodologies for writing of music history, knowledge construction in art and craft, and archiving as a practice. Sushruti lives and teaches Carnatic music in Pune. She also runs a non-profit foundation that works with traditional artists from across India.
