Tianlong Yu

Dr Tianlong Yu is a professor of social foundations of education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. He is primarily concerned with issues of identity, voice, power and access, and their relationships to schooling. His early writings were focused on moral education, especially political issues surrounding moral education policies and practices. He is the author of In the Name of Morality: Character Education and Political Control (Peter Lang, 2004) and co-editor of Character and Moral Education: A Reader (Peter Lang, 2011), which won an American Educational Studies Association’s Critics’ Choice Book Award. In recent years, his interest has shifted from morality to citizenship, and he is particularly interested in the development of a democratic ‘civil society’ in China and the role of citizenship education in it.
