Tuulikki Laes

Tuulikki Laes is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Educational Research and Academic Development in the Arts (CERADA), University of the Arts Helsinki, Finland. Her work as a researcher, teacher and academic entrepreneur integrates perspectives on sociology, education and policy within music education. As a lecturer at the Sibelius Academy, she has designed and taught courses with a special focus on adult education and inclusive education. Her recent research stems from ArtsEqual, a major Finnish strategic research project where she led policy processes between arts institution leaders, stakeholders and government officials. In 2018, Laes was a visiting scholar at the International Institute of Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria. Her current project, funded by the Academy of Finland (2019–22), focuses on the transformative politics of music education in an ageing society. She has been an invited keynote speaker in Finland, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands and Germany. Laes has published her work in several books and peer-reviewed journals, and she is the member of the editorial board of the Finnish Journal of Music Education.
