Yiren Zhao
Yiren Zhao is an interdisciplinary researcher with interests in ethnomusicology, phenomenology, and music ethics and philosophy. She received her Ph.D. in 2023 from Orebro University, Sweden. Her doctoral thesis ‘Shaping the meaning of Chinese music subcultures’ examines the meaning of Chinese punk, metal, rock and rap subcultures, and how the meaning is shaped by the interplays between the broad Chinese context, individual participants’ practice, and the affective properties of the music.
