Artificial Intelligence
This page has been setup to keep our community informed about the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in academic publishing and how it may impact our authors and editors. Large Language Models(LLMs), such as ChatGPT are increasingly being used to generate, summarize, and analyse content.
AI companies have approached publishers seeking to license content for training these models. At this stage, Intellect has not entered into any agreements to license content to AI companies and if we were to, we want to reassure you that we would not include your content without your agreement.
However, we recognise both the potential benefits and risks associated with such partnerships, and we believe that authors should have a say in whether their work is included in any future licensing arrangement. To ensure openness and clarity, I have attached three documents I created for your review:
- ‘What’s all the fuss about Large Language Models?’ – An overview of what LLMs are, their impact on research, teaching and publishing, and our policy on the use of AI-generated content in scholarly writing.
- ‘Q&A: Using Intellect Content to Train Large Language Models’ – A document addressing common concerns about AI training agreements and how we would approach this issue if we were to engage with AI companies in the future.
- ‘Intellect’s Relationship to AI’ – An article I recently wrote for our publication, IQ 40, celebrating Intellect’s 40 years as an academic publisher.
We encourage you to read these documents carefully.
Your feedback is invaluable so please don’t hesitate to share your thoughts or ask questions—we are committed to ensuring that any decisions we make align with the best interests of our authors.
