New Editors and Editorial Board Announced for Metal Music Studies, 2020-2024

Dr Niall Scott of the University of Central Lancashire (UK) will be the new Principal Editor of Metal Music Studies from 2020. Niall is the former Chair of the International Society of Metal Music Studies and a key figure in metal music studies. He is joined by Professor Nelson Varas-Diaz, of Florida International University (USA), who becomes the Second Section Editor. Nelson is well-known in metal music studies and is making headlines with his documentaries.

A new Editorial Board lines up alongside them from 2020. In alphabetical order, the new Board is comprised of the following academics who bring a huge range of knowledge and experience: Dr Kevin Fellezs, Columbia University (USA); Dr Ross Hagen, Utah Valley University (USA); Dr Catherine Hoad, Massey University (NZ); Dr. Rosemary Overell, University of Otago (NZ); Dr Imke von Helden, University of Koblenz-Landau (Germany); and Dr Jeremy Wallach, Bowling Green State University (USA).

Metal Music Studies is published by Intellect, and has been published three issues per year since 2015. This peer-reviewed journal provides a focus for research and theory in metal music studies, a multidisciplinary (and interdisciplinary) subject field that engages with a range of parent disciplines. It provides a platform for high-quality research and theory and aims to be a unique resource for metal music studies. It is the intellectual hub for the International Society of Metal Music Studies.

Current Principal Editor Karl Spracklen said: “I am really pleased to be handing over to such a talented line-up. Niall and Nelson are the dream ticket.”

Vacancies for the Metal Music Studies Editorial Advisory Board will be announced shortly.
