Adam Doering

Adam Doering is an associate professor in the Faculty of Tourism at Wakayama University, Japan. He has published broadly on philosophizing tourism focusing on hospitality and relationality, lifestyle sports and surf tourism, as well as coastal and rural tourism development in Japan. His latest co-edited book, Socialising Tourism published by Routledge by Higgins-Desbiolles, Doering and Bigby (2022) seeks to reorient travel and tourism based on the rights, interests and safeguarding of traditional ecological and cultural knowledges of local peoples, communities and living landscapes. Adam’s current research project examines how different post-tsunami coastal communities reimagine, rebuild and recover relationships with the sea through surf tourism.
