Adnan Madani

Adnan Madani is an artist, writer and lecturer in visual cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London. Born and educated in Karachi, he exhibits individually and as a member of collaborative projects representing a sustained exploration of practices of collective subjectivity. His research interests include globalisation, secularism and subjectivity in contemporary culture, drawing on the work of Wittgenstein, Talal Asad and Jean-Luc Nancy. His recent writing has focused on Islam and archaeology, curatorial ethics and the thinking of destruction in modernity, especially as seen through contemporary Pakistani art and cinema. He is currently involved in organising workshops investigating the possibilities of art as social practice and radical pedagogy in South Asia, and is the co-author (with Jean-Paul Martinon) of the forthcoming book Visual Cultures as World Forming.
