Adrian Pole
Adrian Pole completed both a BA and an MA in history at University College London before embarking on a doctorate at the University of Edinburgh with the assistance of the Principal’s Career Development Scholarship. His research, which is supervised by Dr Julius Ruiz, is concerned with the many cross-cultural encounters which took place between the foreign volunteers of the International Brigades and the people, places and politics of the country which hosted them during the Spanish Civil War of 1936–39. He is the co-founder and co-organizer of the Modern Spanish History Doctoral Seminar, an online initiative which provides doctoral students a chance to share their research into modern Spain and hear from invited guest speakers.
