Akiko Ogawa

Akiko Ogawa is a professor at the College of Image Arts and Sciences at Ritsumeikan University. She received an MA in socio-informatics and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary information studies from the University of Tokyo. She has worked as an announcer for Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting and has previously taught at Aichi Shukutoku University and Nagoya University. She is currently focusing on the themes of media and social inclusion. Her primary research area is community media, which she investigates from the perspective of social inclusion and people’s media literacy. She focuses on how various forms of media can help marginalized people in society. This is done by using participatory research, interviews and analysing media representation.
