Akshaya Kumar

Akshaya Kumar is an assistant professor in sociology at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology Indore. He received his Ph.D. on Screen studentship from the University of Glasgow. His first monograph, Provincializing Bollywood: Bhojpuri Cinema in the Comparative Media Crucible, is to be published by the Media Dynamics in South Asia series of Oxford University Press in late 2020. His interests include the questions of capital, genre, stardom, provinciality and language in Indian media. His recent work grapples with regional cinemas of India, platform economies, derivative markets, logistics and vernacular music industries. His scholarly work has been published in various academic journals including Postmodern Culture, Social Text, Media Industries, Television and New Media and Media International Australia.
