Aldo Nicosia

Aldo Nicosia, researcher and lecturer of Arabic language and literature at the University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’, has published two volumes about Arab cinema: Il cinema arabo (Carocci, 2007) and Il romanzo arabo al cinema: Microcosmi egiziani e palestinesi (Carocci, 2014). His main articles concern the phenomena of Islamic integralism, undocumented immigration and the vision of the ‘Other’ in Tunisian and Egyptian cinema. He was jury member of the International Festival of African Cinema of Verona in 2020. Among his recent translations into Italian is the novel Il concorso (Edizioni Q, 2018) by the Egyptian writer Salwa Bakr. He has recently edited a collection of short stories translated from Arabic and Maltese into Italian in Kòshari: racconti arabi e maltesi (Progedit, 2021). His research interests are cinema adaptations from Middle Eastern and North African novels, Arabic translation studies, dialectology, and literary criticism of Tunisian, Syrian, Egyptian and Maltese modern prose and poetry.
