Alenka Flander

Alenka Flander is the director of the Centre of the Republic of Slovenia for Mobility and European programmes in education and training, the leading Slovene institution on the field of the internationalization of higher education. She has been involved in higher education in the field of internationalization for over twenty years. Alenka is specialized in providing enhancement advisory services for higher education institutions in the field of internationalization. Besides her professional engagements related to internationalization of higher education, Alenka has carried out several research projects on the impact of the international cooperation on institutional and national systems development as well as international comparative research on academic profession. Her main research interests are related to internationalization, global citizenship, social responsibility and institutional governance. Her expertise lies mainly in the internationalization strategies, cooperation and approaches and the knowledge of the HE systems and governance. Currently she is a national team leader in the Academic Profession in the Knowledge-Based Society (APIKS), involving over 30 countries (project is coordinated by Timo Aarrevaara [Finland], Jung Cheol Shin [Korea], with Ulrich Teichler as an advisor). Alenka holds a graduate degree in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in political science.
