Alexander Kolassa

Alexander Kolassa is a lecturer in music at the Open University. His research currently concerns the intersections of musical modernism, medievalism (which is to say the modern medieval imaginary) and popular culture: in the concert hall, on stage and on screen. His work has been published by Routledge (as in his co-edited collection Recomposing the Past: Representations of Early Music on Stage and Screen [2018]) and Boydell & Brewer, and he has published research with sound studies and early music journals on subjects ranging from British contemporary opera, music in Game of Thrones, new media, videogames and Russian cinema. As a composer, Alexander’s music has been performed nationally, and his score for immersive and transmedia theatre has contributed to the awarding of a Royal Television Award in digital innovation. At the Open University, Alexander is developing new courses in music theory as well as contributing to teaching in music and technology.
