Alexander M. Clements

Alexander Clements, DMA, is a music educator, jazz pianist, and composer. He recently completed his doctorate in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California. Originally from Canada, Clements currently resides in Las Vegas where he teaches at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and also performs in a Cirque du Soleil show. As a pianist, Clements performed at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the Martial Solal International Jazz Piano Competition in Paris. As a composer he received an AEGIS award for his music score in the film documentary Lewis and Clark: Following their Footsteps. He was also awarded a Québec Music Award for his suite entitled Jazz Images portraying the history of jazz. Clements has received grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council to support his performance, composition, and musicological research. He was also presented with an Alberta Achievement Award by the Government of Alberta. Through his experiences as a parent, teacher, composer, and performer, Clements developed a passion for researching the social benefits of joint music making.
