Alina Skrzeszewska

Alina Skrzeszewska, MFA, is an award-winning documentary filmmaker. She has made several films in L.A.’s Skid Row neighbourhood since 2006, including two feature documentaries (Songs from the Nickel, 2010, and Game Girls, 2018). Game Girls premiered at the Berlinale Panorama 2018, and went on to win several awards since then. Alina holds an MFA in film and video from the California Institute of the Arts, as well as a master’s in art and media and stage design from the University of the Arts in Berlin, Germany. She is the recipient of a number of grants and scholarships, including a twelve-month DAAD artist grant. Alina was born in Poland. She emigrated to West Germany with her parents at the age of 5, during a time of martial law. After growing up in Munich, Alina moved to Berlin and later Los Angeles. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
