Alyson Wharton

Alyson Wharton(-Durgaryan) is Senior Lecturer in the School of History and Heritage at the University of Lincoln. From 2012 to 2015, she was Assistant Professor in the Department of History of Art at Mardin Artuklu University. She has published on Armenian architects working within the nineteenth-century Ottoman Empire, most notably in her book, Architects of Ottoman Constantinople: The Balyan Family and the History of Ottoman Architecture (I.B. Tauris, 2015). More recently, she has turned her attention to the study of cities in the Ottoman East in the Hamidian Era, as well as to the topic of Ottoman–Armenian art dealers and craftsmen as migrants to Britain.
