Andrea Gaspar

Andrea Gaspar, anthropologist, is an integrated researcher at CRIA – Centre for Research in Anthropology, Portugal. Her research is focused at the intersection of anthropology, design and STS. She holds a Ph.D. in social anthropology, awarded by the University of Manchester, United Kingdom (2013), and a master’s in sociology by the University of Coimbra, Portugal (2006). She worked four years as a full-time lecturer in social anthropology at the University of Coimbra (2015–19). She also worked as postdoctoral researcher at Centre for Social Studies (CES), University of Coimbra (2014–15) and as a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the Madeira Interactive Technologies Institute, Portugal (2013). Some of her latest publication titles include: ‘From ethnography to arto-ethnography’ (book chapter, in press); ‘Between precarity and opportunity: An ethnography of “flexible skills” in interaction design’ (journal article, 2020); ‘Idiotic encounters: Experimenting with collaborations between ethnography and design’ (book chapter, 2018); ‘Teaching anthropology speculatively’ (journal article, 2018).
