Anestis Azas

Anestis Azas studied theatre in Aristotle University in Thessaloniki and in Hochschule für Schauspielkunst ‘Ernst Busch’ in Berlin. He has worked as assistant director to Dimiter Gotscheff and Rimini Protokoll. Since 2008, he has collaborated as a freelance director with the Onassis Cultural Centre, the National Theatre of Greece, Ballhaus Naunynstrasse and Maxim Gorki Theater in Berlin, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Theater and Orchester Heidelberg, Theaterhaus Jena and Kammerspiele München. His work includes classic (Aeschylus, Heiner Müller, Koltès) and contemporary texts (Dmitrij Gawrisch, Daniela Janjic, Manolis Tsipos, Sakis Serefas), while from 2011 onwards he mainly works on documentary theatre projects, such as Case Pharmakonisi or The Right of Water (Athens Festival 2015).
