Anna V. Cannon

Anna V. Cannon is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History of Art, University of York, England. In her research, she focuses on the influence of P. D. Ouspensky’s philosophy on Russian and American avant-garde artists. She is also interested in parallels between the Russian and American art movements in the 1920–30s and in the 1950–60s. In 2013 she participated in the conference, Enchanted Modernities: Theosophy, Modernism and the Arts c. 1875–1960, with the paper, ‘Builders of the future: Claude Fayette Bragdon and Mikhail Matyushin in search of the cosmic brotherhood’. Anna graduated in 2009 with an MA in art history and museum studies from the City College, CUNY. She wrote the article ‘The new perpendicular: Mikhail Matiushin’s quest for the art of the fourth dimension’ based on her MA thesis. Upon her graduation, she taught undergraduate courses at the City College, CUNY, and worked as a cataloguer at the Godwin-Ternbach Museum, Queens College, CUNY.
