Dr Anthony Schrag is a lecturer in creative industries and cultural management, School of Arts, Social Sciences and Management, Queen Margaret University. His practice-based Ph.D. – completed in 2016 – explored the relationship between artists, institutions and the public, looking specifically at a productive nature of conflict within institutionally supported participatory/public art projects. Schrag’s general research overview includes cultural policy, institutionally supported art projects, and examining how ‘art’ and ‘culture’ is supported in wider institutional frameworks. He is interested in exploring the relationship between artists, institutions and the public, looking specifically at the productive nature of ‘conflict’. Other research interests include the history of participatory practices (socially engaged art/community art/dialogic practices, etc) in addition to how this type of practice is ‘professionalized’. This includes other interdisciplinary/trans-disciplinary experiences of art in ‘non-art’ contexts, in the lineage and legacy of the Artist’s Placement Group.
