Antonio Somaini

Antonio Somaini is professor of Film, Media and Visual Culture Theory at the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. He is a senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF). Among his main publications are the books Culture visuelle. Images, regards, médias, dispositifs (with Andrea Pinotti, Les Presses du Réel, 2022; Italian edition, Einaudi, 2016) and Ejzenštejn. Il cinema, le arti, il montaggio (Einaudi, 2011). He has co-edited the collective volumes Repenser le médium. Cinéma et art contemporain (with Larisa Dryansky and Riccardo Venturi, Les Presses du Réel, 2022) and La haute et la basse définition des images. Photographie, cinéma, art contemporain, culture visuelle (with Francesco Casetti, Mimesis, 2021). He has co-edited editions in English, French and Italian of texts by Walter Benjamin, Sergei M. Eisenstein, László Moholy-Nagy, and Dziga Vertov. In 2020 Antonio Somaini has been the chief curator of the exhibition Time Machine: Cinematic Temporalities (2020).
