Aqeel Mehdi
Dr Aqeel Mehdi is a prominent drama practitioner and critic and a former dean of the Academy of Fine Arts, Baghdad, Iraq. He got his MA and Ph.D. degrees in drama from Bulgaria, where he studied after getting his BA from the Academy of Fine Arts in Baghdad. As a member of the Modern Artistic Theatre troupe, Aqeel Mehdi performed in several plays, including plays by Yusuf al-Ani. He also wrote the play Yusuf Yoghanni (‘Yusuf is Singing’) to celebrate and highlight al-Ani’s contributions to the Iraqi theatre.
