Avijit Mukul Kishore

Avijit Mukul Kishore is a film-maker, cinematographer, curator and film-teacher based in Mumbai. He studied cinematography at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune and has a bachelor’s degree in history from Hindu College, University of Delhi. He works in different genres of film-making with a special interest in the documentary and inter-disciplinary moving-image practices. He collaborates with visual artists on installation art projects. He was co-curator of the FD Zone programme in Mumbai from 2012 to 2015. He is currently co-curator of the Movies at the Museum programme at the Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai. He has been a guest curator for MAMI Mumbai Film Festival and IIHS Urban Lens Festival (Bangalore and Delhi). His films as director-cinematographer include The Garden of Forgotten Snow (2017), Electric Shadows: Journeys in Image-making (2015), Nostalgia for the Future (co-directed by Rohan Shivkumar, 2017), Vertical City (2011), Certified Universal (2009) and Snapshots from a Family Album (2004). His films as cinematographer include Kumar Talkies (1999), John and Jane (2005), Bidesia in Bambai (2014), I am Micro (2012) and An Old Dog’s Diary (2016). Collaborations on visual art projects include – In Search of Vanished Blood (Nalini Malani 2012), Tracking (Vivan Sundaram 2003–04) and Turning (Vivan Sundaram 2008).
