Ayako Suwa

Ayako Suwa (artist/director of [food creation]) was born in Ishikawa, Japan, in 1976. After graduating from Kanazawa College of Art, she developed the works of ‘food creation’ in 2006. Creating food as art that explores the human instincts of desire, curiosity and evolution, she presents new values for food that are neither gourmet tastes, nutrition nor an energy source. Her career as a food artist began with an exhibition in 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, in 2008. The exhibition was on ‘sensuous food, emotional taste’. An edible artwork, Sensuous Food, Emotional Taste, shown at this exhibition was created by the combination of complicated ingredients and expressed various feelings and emotions of human beings. Suwa has since created a performance Guerrilla Restaurant to taste this work’s full course at the venues in Tokyo, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Singapore, Paris, Hong Kong, Taipei, Berlin, Barcelona and more.
