BELLA MODY
Dr. Bella Mody has held the deCastro Chair at the University of Colorado School of Journalism and Mass Communication in Boulder since 2004. She specializes in international applications of communication technologies, the political economy of media in developing countries, and design research on public service applications of media.
Mody's authored/edited books include International and Development Communication: A 21st Century Perspective, The Handbook of International and Intercultural Communication, Telecommunication Politics, and Designing Messages for Development Communication. Her research articles have been published in Communication Theory, The Journal of International Communication, The Information Society, The Journal of Communication, Telecom-munication Policy, Media Development, Telematics and Informatics, Gazette, Communication Research, Journal of Research in Personality, and the Journal of Social Psychology.
Mody coordinated the USAID-funded MA program in International Development Communication at Stanford University as an assistant professor (1978–1983), was on the Broadcast Communication faculty at San Francisco State University (1983–1985), and then worked at Michigan State University (1985–2004).
Mody consults for UN agencies, national governments, and humanitarian organizations on media applications for agriculture, health, and education. Her previous work has included training and/or research in India, Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Barbados, Ghana, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Kenya, and South Africa.
