Ben Wiedel-Kaufmann

Ben Wiedel-Kaufmann is a lecturer in the Department of Art History at The Open University. He has written and taught undergraduate and postgraduate modules spanning twentieth-century European art, museology and critical and historical studies. His research is principally concerned with the interrelations of art and politics in the twentieth century. He is currently working on a monograph which builds on his Ph.D. research into the interrelations between murals and left-wing politics in London across the 1970s and 1980s. From 2017 to 2019, he was a researcher on ‘For Walls with Tongues’, an oral history project examining the history of murals in Britain from the 1960s to 1980s. He has published a range of catalogues and articles on modern and contemporary artists and has contributed papers to conferences including those of the Association of Art Historians and Historical Materialism. He is a convenor for the Marxism in Culture seminar series.
