Beñat Doxandabaratz
Beñat Doxandabaratz is an assistant lecturer at the University of the Basque Country, Department of Basque Language and Communication. After completing a degree in film and media studies at the University of Stirling (United Kingdom), he spent almost two decades working as a journalist in the cultural sector. In 2020, he obtained his Ph.D. in social communication with a thesis titled ‘Rural and urban identities in collision in new Basque cinema’ from the aforementioned university. His research centres primarily on the interplay between cinema and society, with a specific interest in European cinema produced in minority languages. More precisely, his focus is on the exploration of new cinema in Basque after 2005, where a significant number of films portray a clash between individual and collective identities, while spotlighting a third liminal space that seems to interact with the characters.
