Benjamin Pinsent is a postgraduate researcher at the University of East Anglia, specializing in special effects, film history and animation. He has written on the boundary between media consumers and producers in the production of special effects on YouTube and the way in which fans use social media to learn special effects software. His soon-to-be-submitted thesis focuses on the perception of special effects by make-up artist Rick Baker and how various factors have changed this over time.
