Bibi Ayesha Mall

Bibi Ayesha Mall has a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication science from the University of South Africa, and an honours degree in media studies and master’s degree in cultural, communication and media studies from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She was awarded the Kagiso Trust scholarship and the Steve Biko scholarship during her studies. She has taught journalism, communication and media studies for 26 years and since 2006 teaches in the journalism programme in the Department of Media, Language and Communication at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), Durban South Africa. She led the implementation of the Master of Journalism degree in 2012 and, as programme curriculum champion, was instrumental in the development of new qualifications: Bachelor of Journalism and the Bachelor of Journalism Honours degrees, which were first offered in 2020 and 2023, respectively. She has worked as a television and community radio producer, a community radio and print news editor, and a freelance online news journalist. Her research areas include journalism ethics, community media and media representation.
