Birgül Açikyildiz

Birgül Açıkyıldız received her Ph.D. at Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne University in France. She was awarded the Barakat Trust Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Oxford and the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harvard University. Açıkyıldız previously worked as an assistant professor at Mardin Artuklu University. She is currently an associate professor at Harran University, Turkey and a research associate at Paul Valéry Montpellier 3 University and the French Anatolian Research Institute in Istanbul (IFEA). Her research interests include the art and architecture of the Yezidis and other Kurdish communities, Islamic material culture, Ottoman modernization and architecture, and Armenian, Chaldean, and Syriac arts and cultural heritage.
