Carla-Mae Crookendale

Carla-Mae Crookendale is the arts research librarian and an assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. In this position, she works with performing and visual arts faculty and students to support their creative research through instruction, one-on-one consultations and programming. Her research interests include visual literacy, socially conscious art and design, fashion and craft. Before becoming a librarian, she worked as a jewellery designer and instructor, a stained-glass artist and a theatre costume instructor/shop manager. Her writings have appeared in Art Documentation, American Libraries and College & Research Libraries. She holds an MLIS from Valdosta State University, a BFA in metals and jewellery and an MFA in fashion from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
