Carol Rena Shansky

Carol Rena Shansky is assistant professor/coordinator of the music education programme at New Jersey City University (United States) and teaches classroom methods, instrumental conducting, music history, grad research and curriculum. She received the DMA (Mu.Ed.) and MM (performance) from Boston University, and the BM (Mu.Ed.) from Ithaca College. Dr Shansky has presented at conferences including History of Music Education Symposia, CMS (National and Regions), IGEB, ISSME, NACWPI, Adult and Lifelong Learning Symposium, and Association of Popular Music Education. She is a contributor to the Journal of Historical Research in Music Education, Journal of Musicological Research, NACWPI Journal and Research and Issues in Music Education (United States) as well as reviews in Notes and Journal of Historical Research in Music Education. She is the author of Musical Tapestries: A Thematic Approach to Music Appreciation and The Hebrew Orphan Asylum Band: Community, Culture and Opportunity. She is a clinician on flute teaching methods and has designed courses on topics in music education, music history and world music.
