Carol Sommer
Carol Sommer recently completed a practice led Ph.D. at Leeds Beckett University; Sommer’s thesis was titled ‘Contingent form and the feminine in the novels of Iris Murdoch’. Within the aesthetic context of conceptual writing her practice has included performance readings at conferences in the United Kingdom and abroad, and a film titled From One to the Other made with participants from locations including Moscow, Canada, Scotland and Liverpool via Skype who responded to an online call out for volunteer readers. In 2016 she took part in Reading as Art, curated by Simon Morris at Bury Art Museum, and she is the author of Cartography for Girls, an A – Z of Orientations Identified in the Novels of Iris Murdoch. Sommer studied fine art at Cleveland College of Art and Design and received an MA from Northumbria University in 2005. She currently teaches fine art and critical and contextual studies in art and design at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington. For further information please visit
