Catherine Louise Wild
Dr Catherine Louise Wild has worked as a lecturer in creative writing and English literature for the past eight years. She writes scripts for retro comic anthology The 77, using a format generated through collaboration with 2000 AD creator Pat Mills. She has published interviews with writers in the horror/terror genre and her industry experience in publishing stems from her role as communications manager for the Winchester Writers’ Festival. Her creative and critical research centres on the uncanny; the Gothic; children’s horror and terror; comics for girls; cultural history and the reception and impact of threshold concepts. She teaches as a visiting lecturer at the University of Winchester where she is the creator and editor of a new multimodal comic. She is also a visiting lecturer at Bournemouth University and works as a volunteer, teaching literacy to asylum seekers and refugees. She completed her Ph.D. in 2019 at the University of Winchester, with her thesis focusing on the girls’ comic Misty (1978–80). Her areas of expertise include: the carnivalesque; the uncanny; the Gothic; horror; terror; elements of hauntology; social history; comics structure, function and creation; threshold concepts and textual intervention. She continues to create comic scripts based on her research, two of which will be published in anthologies in 2022.
